If you see: short eyebrows

This could mean: thyroid disorders

Hold a pencil perpendicular to the outer corner of your eye, and if your eyebrows are not the pencil, it could indicate a thyroid insufficiency. Thyroid hormones have many functions and one of them is to regulate the speed of your cells to rebuild. When your thyroid hormone levels are unbalanced, the effect can be seen in almost every cell of your body, even hair follicles. (You may also notice that the hair on your head has become thinner and drier.) Some Other presenting symptoms include weight gain, fatigue and constipation.

What to do: Your doctor may give you a blood test to measure hormone levels. If they are weak, medications to restore normal levels.

If you see: the ring along

It can mean a higher risk of osteoarthritis

According to a 2008 study in the journal Arthritis & Rheumatism, women whose ring finger is longer than their index twice as likely to suffer from osteoarthritis. Although researchers are not sure why the link exists, it can be linked to testosterone exposure in the womb. The ring longer have higher levels of prenatal testosterone. This reduces the concentration of estrogen, which is crucial for bone development. The finger length also has a remarkable effect on the opposite sex: if the index of a man is longer than the ring finger, his risk of prostate cancer is reduced by one third.

What to do: If you are overweight, losing just 5 percent of the weight of your body to help reduce your risk of osteoarthritis of the knee (one of the most common type), according to a 2009 study by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

If you see: yellow nails

It could mean: Diabetes

Discolored nails may simply indicate an infection, but if you have to make extra trips to the bathroom, always to get to your water bottle, and the feeling of fatigue, the likely culprit is diabetes. The condition can cause glucose to link the collagen proteins in the nail, turning from pink to yellow.

What to do: Consult your doctor for testing for diabetes. If it is positive, we may recommend a combination of lifestyle changes and medications to keep the disease under control.

If you can see: The thick dark hair, facial or body

It could mean: polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)

Many women see a few strands on their upper lip, but coarse, black hair that manifests itself in unusual places, such as the chin, cheeks, chest, abdomen or back can signal a hormonal imbalance associated with PCOS. Women with this condition where the body produces more androgens (male sex hormones) than normal, may also experience irregular periods and cystic acne and have difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.

What to do: see your doctor for a blood test to check hormone levels. PCOS increases the risk of diabetes and infertility, but changes in lifestyle (such as quitting smoking and losing weight) and regulation of hormonal medications (such as birth control pills) may help reduce symptoms and prevent complications.
