Discussion Presents The Key Tests Of GOP

For the 2012 Republican hopeful, by Wednesday evening the Fall Classic first.

Eight candidates are expected to take the stage at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, for political debate / NBC News - the first face to face as the campaign in full swing.

It is also the first debate, including Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the new favorite that rocked the presidential race and was moving slowly forming the landscape of Mitt Romney, who had been sitting on the floor for months.

Five things to look at the candidates on stage:

1) If the journey Perry or alive?

Assuming that forest fires do not keep Texas Perry at home, it will be the candidate most studied in the debate. CEO oldest state had all the momentum entering the event tonight, his first national TV filtering.

"All eyes will be on Rick Perry, he was" Mr. August, "said GOP strategist veteran Scott Reed, who was on Team Haley Barbour earlier this year, before the governor of Mississippi chose to run.

Perry has argued before, but many times and, according to Texas-based politics, with mixed results. However, a lingering question of the Republican elites who are looking for a winner and are disenchanted with Romney is still "Can Rick Perry to get hit in a boxing ring that is accustomed to?"

The potential of a gaffe is ripe. Perry could have a wide range of topics, from the smell of the comments about the violence of the Federal Reserve, Ben Bernanke, in his "Ponzi scheme" rhetoric of Social Security, with its clear statement of the rights of "Fed Up " Who was published last year.

Perry's work? This debate, several candidates and settled Perry bar very low, because the conventional wisdom that is not the Great Debator and questions about their basic intelligence. You may be able to stay in his playbook of previous debates - I remember a message and repeat, repeat, repeat.

Against him? The rest of the candidates met on stage at least once before they learn from each other rhythms.

Some Republicans say privately that Perry should ignore their opponents and focus on Barack Obama. However, because of his aggressiveness on the stump against Romney and registration, can be risky to hold - even in the House of Ronald Reagan, including the famous command of 11 is prohibited to attack Republican friends.

2) Will Romney to go after the name of Perry?

Two of the discussions it has done so far, Romney has almost disappeared - thankfully - but the other candidates duked it out. A large part of the summer was Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty Grudge Match, and consumed in a debate last month in Ames.

The only time a candidate never came close to directly take on Romney was in New Hampshire in June, when Pawlenty refused to repeat a swing "Obamneycare" telegraphed days earlier. Romney emerges unscathed - and raised the bar for other attacks against him.

But it was Romney's sweetest moments, which has struggled to be seen as able to join the fight with his fists.

Even with Perry crowd since entering the race, Romney made only veiled, passive-aggressive shot that could apply to a variety of candidates.

Romney is to get a little 'more aggressive than his "I am a conservative businessman, not a politician," one step, without sounding forced - or shaking. Romney has experience to push your opponents back to the debate - has become accustomed to the candidates ganging up to 2007's Conversations - but often came off as not angry, strong.

"Both Romney and Perry must find a balance," said Dan Schnur, director of the University of Southern California, Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Political Science. "Romney has taken Perry without seeming desperate. Perry has to be in control without looking anesthetized. Of the two, Perry got the job easier."

3) Can Bachmann break?

There is no doubt that Michele Bachmann has been fought.

Frustrated by the entrance of Perry on the same day she hopes a boost with the Ames Straw Poll winner three weeks ago, Bachmann was in search of his foot - and high enough to keep the race to become a fixture of two men the competition. Despite being eliminated Pawlenty, Bachmann enters the debate with questions remain as to the changes in its campaign this week.

It takes time for discussion, but sources insist that his campaign will not move to Perry.

"The plan is and will always boast of their message and not to attack others," a source "Having said that -. As with Pawlenty - if someone is lying about his record, will tell the truth about them. "

4) E 'Jon Huntsman brings his "truth telling" by his opponents Sunday talk shows?

Huntsman has survived his first debate in Ames, despite the discomfort and the revolutionary line visible or not when contracting with another candidate. It must do more than that here.

As Ames - and because of the political report of the campaign full of struggles, thoughts, profligate spending and fundraising minimum - Huntsman has become an open critic of his party, taking a shot himself, that his strategy of campaigning, John Weaver had until recently taken his turn.

If he does not wear the same criticism of the party - and to specific candidates, including Romney - even though he was there for his rival, he is in danger of Pawlenty-style breathing. If you do not engage in, it will look wimpy. If it does, the whole approach to "civilized", he talked about his start is firmly at rest - one, perhaps his ability to get support for future competition.

5) Is Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Herman Cain show that relevant?

Gingrich was the "critical pick due to its anti-media rant in the previous debate, but praise him no good in the movement of real survey. Santorum was also a good time in Ames face-off when he criticized Ron Paul, in essence, too extreme. Cain and enjoying his own rhetorical success on stage, especially in the first debate of the campaign.

But all three remain mired in the third row. None of them can do anything on stage to convince voters to give the rule of a hit for Perry, Romney or Bachmann?

Besides the use of Paul - who is likely, as he did brilliantly, to complain about the lack of mainstream media, he received - like a leaf, each needs to show a glimpse of something presidential or at least politics seriously, the voters of the account to continue.
